Fashion model Ajuma Nasanyana graces the cover of New African Woman Magazine’s October/November edition, and joins model greats like Iman and Bethann Hardison in lending her voice to advocating for diversity and inclusion of black models on global fashion runways.
Dismantling the perceived “ideal beauty standard” and the yardstick used to define it, she says:
“As more and more girls of my skin tone come into the industry, who are confident in their beautiful dark skin, the acceptance of the saying ‘Black is beautiful’ is finally becoming a real. I do not feel like the blackest girl in the world anymore”.
The magazine edition also goes a step further to highlight the top names and unsung African models that make the fashion industry tick, yet remain under-exposed in mainstream.
The magazine issue with Ajuma is out digitally and available to download on https://www.exacteditions.com/read/new-african-woman.
